Eddie Otchere’s Portraits of the Wu-Tang Clan

Method Man. Photograph by Eddie Otchere

I was recently reminded of photographer Eddie Otchere’s candid portraits of the Wu-Tang Clan in its early days. The images are personal and fun and capture an innovative era of hip-hop. Here’s what Dazed had to say back in 2016:

Back in the 90s and early 00s, Eddie Otchere photographed pretty much every major artist on the hip hop scene: Jay Z, Aaliyah, Biggie, Andre 3000, and Mos Def are just a small handful of the names that Otchere snapped. He was also able to capture portraits of every member of the Wu-Tang Clan, although it took five years of hanging out with them to get the photos down. Now, the images — never exhibited in their entirety — are going on display at South London venue Brixton East 1871. But if you can't be there, then peep these images of ODB, Method Man, Ghostface Killah, GZA and more exclusively on Dazed Digital.
